FRITZ 11 ENGINE SOLVES END GAME PROBLEM AT 20 PLY DEPTH
This is a position where only human chess players with understanding can take advantage. The problem is of human nature. But the chess engine solved it. This disproves the fact that they cannot understand a position and play accordingly. The nature of all chess programs is such that they are not capable of understanding a chess position. They only keep moving pieces in analysis and make a move which has more advantage.

The chess engine cannot understand a position but it has made moves which can be done only by players with understanding. So one must conclude that they are capable of making moves with understanding. Whether they will succeed in understanding all types of complex middle game formations is not known.

One fact is certain: they do not understand all types of complex middle game formations. This happens to be an endgame position with very few pieces and combinations. May be that is how it found a way out.
